Corporate Ethics?

Hiya folks,

Venting time.  I got a couple of letters from Zellers telling me that my pharmaceutical information had been "transferred" to Zehrs ( a member of the Loblaw chain ).  I looked into it and discovered that my information was part of a $35 million deal that saw Loblaw purchase the information.  All the promotional stuff I've received from Zehrs talks about stuff like "easing transition" and "continuity of care."  What rubbish.  What they want is continuity of my dollars to them, and they've invested big bucks to ensure this.  So I phoned the 'Any Questions?' number with my concerns and was told to call the local pharmacy.  I did so.  I received what sounded like a well-rehearsed / well-read company line about "easing transition" and "continuity of blah blah."  When asked whom I could speak to further I was given another name.  But by this point, I'm fed up.
What Zellers should have done was either:  a) request the pharmacy to which I wanted my records sent; b) sent my records to me directly; or c) offered me my cut of the information sale.  However, they chose instead to use my information to make a buck.  The Loblaw group should send me my records directly or give me reliable proof they've destroyed them.  I don't want to deal with a company that will pursue strategies like this.  Maybe I'm naive, and maybe this these practices are commonplace, but I've been affected directly.  Furthermore, I'm convinced the corporate run-around I'm currently getting is a purposeful strategy.  Most people will just give up and move on.  However, one thing I learned is that my records will be deleted after seven years if there is no action on the account.  So clearly, a boycott of any Loblaw-owned pharmacy is in order for the next seven years (and most likely for the rest of my life).
A couple of questions remain, though.  Why didn't people make more of a stink about this?  Corporations dealing in our private information should raise red flags for everyone.  Are there others out there boycotting as a result of this?  If you are, good luck to you.  Vent finished.
